2. Privacy
Alias Email’s privacy policies explain how we treat personal data and protect your privacy when you use the services. By using the services, you agree that Alias Email can use such data in accordance with these policies.
Personal Data We Collect
When you interact with our sites and services, the data we collect depends on the context.
- When you register for an account, we collect your full name, email address, and account log-in credentials.
- When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your full name and email address.
- When you reply to our emails or contact support, we collect your name, email address, and any other information you include in the message.
Information Collected Automatically
- We use Plausible, an open-source and privacy-aware analytics service that does not use cookies or collect personal identifiable information.
- By default, Alias Email does not store your emails. Messages are deleted from Alias Email servers as soon as they reach their destination, except temporarily retained undeliverable emails.
- By default, Alias Email does not keep permanent IP logs. Some logs may appear in Postfix and Nginx and are deleted after 7 days, unless retained for abuse prevention.
- Native mobile applications may collect crash and anonymous aggregate data necessary for reliability and platform operations.
- Because of SMTP protocol limitations, we have access to limited email metadata such as sender and recipient addresses, source IP, subject, and message timing.
- We also maintain account activity records such as message counts, storage use, total messages, and last login time.
What We Collect and Why
- Identity and access: We require your email address to create an account. You may optionally add a name and profile picture.
- Billing information: If you pay for a product, billing details are used to process charges, calculate taxes, and issue invoices. Payment card data is handled by our payment processors and does not pass through our servers.
- Voluntary correspondence: We keep support and contact emails so we can reference prior conversations when helping you later.
When We Access or Share Information
- To help you troubleshoot or resolve a software bug, and only with your permission.
- To investigate, prevent, or take action regarding restricted uses or suspected abuse.
- When required by applicable law, such as a valid warrant or court order.
How We Secure Your Data
All data is encrypted via SSL/TLS when transmitted between our servers and your browser. Our databases and backups are encrypted at rest.
When You Delete Your Account
You can delete your account at any time. Your account and its information are deleted immediately from the running database, and remaining data is purged from our systems within a maximum of 30 days.
- Database backups may be retained for up to 14 days.
- System logs are deleted after 30 days.
